Abstract:

This session examines the psychological impact of perinatal loss on parents, with attention to a range of experiences including stillbirth and termination for medical reasons. Participants will explore the role of healthcare providers in offering compassionate, trauma-informed support during these profoundly difficult circumstances.
Through a combination of current research, case studies, and practical strategies, the session will focus on developing skills for engaging in sensitive, patient-centered conversations. Emphasis will be placed on understanding what bereaved parents perceive as helpful or harmful in clinical interactions, and how providers can effectively “hold space” while maintaining professional boundaries.
Attendees will leave with enhanced communication tools and greater confidence in navigating complex emotional care following perinatal loss.
