Responding to Misinformation: Practical Strategies for Midwives

Abstract:

Health misinformation is increasingly influencing how clients understand pregnancy, birth, vaccines, supplements, and newborn care, often creating confusion, anxiety, and barriers to informed decision-making. Midwives are well positioned to respond through the trusting relationships they build with clients and their role in supporting informed choice. Doing so requires digital literacy, respectful communication, and practical strategies for addressing false or misleading information while preserving trust. This panel discussion will explore the impact of misinformation on midwifery care and offer practical approaches to recognizing and responding to misinformation, navigating challenging conversations, and guiding clients toward accurate, accessible, and culturally safe information that supports informed decision-making.
