Biography:

Dr Isabella Garti is a midwifery researcher at the Molly Wardaguga Institute of First Nations Birth Rights, Charles Darwin University. Her PhD focused on the multilevel factors influencing preeclampsia management by midwives, highlighting the complex interplay between clinical practice, education, and health systems.

Her research interests include preeclampsia care, midwifery education, and health service redesign. She co-leads the development of the Birthing on Country Toolkit, supporting Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) and mainstream services to deliver culturally safe maternity care in Australia.

Internationally, Isabella leads a Gates Foundation–funded sub-award to digitise preservice midwifery education in Nigeria, creating innovative learning tools for future midwives.

Through research, education, and collaboration, Isabella is committed to improving outcomes for mothers and babies both in Australia and globally.
