It’s almost time for another exciting GOLD Midwifery online conference! We can’t wait to share this incredible gathering of top-notch speakers. Betty-Anne Daviss has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of midwifery in North America. She has practised as a midwife for over 40 years throughout the world, and has been a researcher in the social sciences and clinical epidemiology for over 25 years. Her work has impacted the legislation of midwives in Canada and the United States, as well as the reintroduction of vaginal breech birth in Canada. Betty-Anne has worked tirelessly as a teacher, researcher, and editor in the field of midwifery and the politics of gender and health.
During “Speaking Truth to Power: Childbirth Models on the Human Rights’ Frontier” attendees will learn about the ways national and international efforts to improve childbirth have grown and evolved in recent decades. Betty-Anne wil highlight how pushing back against the status quo has created the opportunity to utilize more appropriate models of care. We’ll hear about innovative approaches to creating change within birth and midwifery in various settings as well as how radical, conscious shifts can shake up current power structures.
